Do I Repair or Replace my old boots?

A tough question most have pondered at one time or another. The love you have for your broken-in boots is not easily thrown out. Most will wait until they fall apart to buy new ones but if you love your boots you can resole them for years of more use.

Resole-ing your boots is not an easy project and is best left up to the pros but it can be done for a modest price. This is a great option for the boots that are no longer available or have a special place in your heart and or closet(ladies). For forty or fifty bucks most shoe repair shops can replace the sole and make your boots feel like new.

Replacing your boots is the most common option and keeps you up to date with the most current foot wear technology. They have come a long way in the last couple of years in the comfort department. The new boots have shock absorbing soles and special foot beds for long wearing comfort. And the composition on the new soles adds more traction and longer wear. They leather is tanned in ways that make them very soft and strong from the get go and this also lessens the break in time.

Leather Gloves – What Kind Do You Need

We have had a mild winter this year in Tennessee. This morning was the first morning I have got in the truck and put my hands on the steering wheel and said jeez that’s cold where are my leather gloves. If this has happened to you or before this happens to you head on over to our leather gloves page and find something that will keep your hands warm this winter. For extremely cold conditions make sure to get a glove that is lined with Thinsulate or polar fleece. For moderately cold temperatures an unlined glove would be enough to knock the chill off of your hands.

How should my boots fit?

When boots are fitted correctly, your feet should feel great. Remember, that differences in leather, toe and heels styles can affect the way a boot fits. Determine what thickness of socks you generally wear and allow for the socks in the fitting process.

1. TAKE A SEAT: It is much easier to pull on boots when seated. You will hear a soft “plop” when the foot drops into the boot. Now have your customer stand to determine proper fit.
2. FIND THE FOOTBALL: The ball of the foot should be the widest part of the boot’s outsole. When standing, the boot shank and arch of the foot should have matching curves.
3. MAKE ROOM FOR THE TOES: There are two tests to determine whether or not your boots have ample toe room. First run your finger over the smaller toes’ area to see if the toes touch softly against the leather. Make sure to be standing is standing. If the smaller toes extend beyond the stitching line of the welt, or if the toes cause a bump, the boots are too short. Try a larger size.
4. INSTEP FIT: You can determine if your boots fit across the instep by taking the leather between your thumb and index finger and rubbing your thumb across the instep. If the boots are too loose, a large wrinkle will appear. A slight wrinkle means the boots fit properly.

Heel Slippage is normal and does not mean the boots are not fitted properly. After the boots have been worn and the outsole flexed a few times heel slippage should stop giving you a comfortable wearing boot.
