Road Trip, Anyone?

Winding RoadThe sun is shining and the birds are singing.  That means the warmer months are ahead and it’s once again the ideal time to hit the road on two wheels.  Motorcyclists from all over the country live for the months when they can load up and get out to feel the wind and sun on their faces.  If you’re ready to be out on the open road, make sure you’re really ready with all you need to keep you safe and supplied.

While you could throw on just any pair of shoes for days when you will feel the wind in your hair, your best bet is to find a good pair of motorcycle boots for long rides.  This is especially true if you have invested into a tough bike like a Harley.  When you’re sitting on a piece of steel almost too cool for the road itself, you better look good while doing it.

The fact of the matter is that dudes or chicks on bikes get a lot of attention on the road.  So if you’re riding the ultimate bike, you need to look like you belong on it.  Yes, you have to deserve that bike.  That means leather jacket, cool helmet and motorcycle boots.  Dressed like this, you look like you belong on that hog and can feel confident while riding the roads.

Even though you are not technically on your feet as you ride your bike, your feet need to be protected and comfortable.  Motorcycle boots are made to be comfortable, with plenty of padding for your feet.  While they oftentimes look heavy, motorcycle boots are pretty light for the most part.  You don’t want to get a workout in clomping around in heavy boots!

To get you where you want to go with what you need when you get there, you need motorcycle saddlebags.  There is a wide variety of accessories you could buy for your motorcycle; but it is motorcycle saddlebags that really provide a useful function for the avid rider.

There are two popular types of motorcycle saddlebags:  bolt on and throw-over.  Bolt on saddlebags are attached directly to your bike.  Most styles will come with mounting brackets.  If you find a bolt-on style that does not come with brackets, these can be ordered independently.   The bolt-on style of saddlebags can be installed pretty quickly and easily, and give the biker customization above other types of bags or luggage. Most motorcycles can handle bolt-on style saddlebags.

The throw-over type of saddlebag provides one of the easiest ways to add extra storage to your bike without the use of mounting brackets.  The best thing about throw-over saddlebags is that they are easy to put on and take off.  So if you’ve got valuables you’d rather not leave on the bike when you make pit-stops, you can just grab the saddlebag and take it with you.  When you put throw-over saddlebags on your bike, you don’t have to worry about theft; you don’t have to lock them up.  All you have to do is unzip, unbuckle or unsnap your bags and away you go.
